3MF

STL Format: Binary vs ASCII

Every STL file — whether binary or ASCII — contains the same triangle mesh data. The difference is how that data is encoded on disk. Slicers and viewers treat both formats identically.

ASCII STL

Human-readable text format. Each triangle lists three vertex coordinates and a surface normal. Easy to debug but produces files 4–5× larger than binary.
