What This STL Repair Tool Fixes

Common mesh errors that stop a slicer from generating a clean toolpath.

Non-manifold edges and vertices

Edges shared by more than two faces, or bowtie vertices, often fail mesh checks. Repair splits and welds topology so most slicers can generate a valid toolpath.

Holes and open boundaries

Missing faces leave boundary loops. Hole filling closes small-to-medium gaps with new triangles so the mesh can become watertight.

Flipped or inconsistent normals

Inverted winding shows up as dark patches and inside-out shells. The fixer orients faces using signed volume so the exterior points outward.

Degenerate and duplicate geometry

Zero-area triangles, stacked faces, and coincident vertices are removed or welded so the remaining mesh is cleaner for slicing.

What to expect from a conservative browser repair — and when to use a heavier tool.

Repairs are conservative

Welding vertices and removing degenerate faces does not reshape the model. Hole filling adds the minimum faces needed to close a loop. Preview the result before printing if the original mesh had large missing regions.

Not a generative remesh

This tool is a local topology fixer, similar in spirit to JustFixSTL. It does not rebuild the sculpture with AI the way Meshy’s cloud repair does, and it does not queue files on a remote server like Formware.

Very large or severely broken scans

Files over 50 MB, or meshes with huge holes and self-intersections, may still need MeshLab, your slicer, or a desktop solid-repair tool. Use this page for typical print-blocking errors first.

Troubleshooting STL Repair

If a file still will not slice, these are the usual next checks.

The file will not load

Confirm the extension is .stl and the export is ASCII or binary STL — not a renamed OBJ or 3MF. Re-export from CAD or convert with our 3D model converter, then try again.

Repair finishes but the slicer still warns

Self-intersections, internal shells, or overlapping solids can survive a conservative repair. Separate objects in CAD, or use your slicer’s split/repair tools for remaining issues.

The page feels slow on a large mesh

Processing uses your CPU. Desktop browsers handle 20–50 MB files better than phones. Decimate in Blender first if the triangle count is extremely high.
